MARION BARBEAU

French actress and dancer, Marion Barbeau became a first soloist at the ballet of the Opéra de Paris in 2018. Besides performing as soloist in the great ballets of the classical and neoclassical repertory, she has worked with Hofesh Shechter, Ohad Naharin, Alan Lucien Øyen, Sharon Eyal, William Forsythe, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke and Benjamin Millepied. At the same time, she co-devised La Fille du Fort in 2018 and Léviathan in 2019, with dancer Simon Le Borgne. In 2020, she played the main role in Cédric Klapisch’s film En Corps.

JEHNNY BETH

French author, singer and actress, Jehnny Beth works in London. After her duo with Johnny Hostile, with whom she founded the record label Pop Noire, she has sung and written two Mercury Prize-nominated albums as part of the band Savage : Silence Yourself (2013) and Adore Life (2016). Besides her collaborations with numerous artists, she brought out the album To Love is To Live in 2020. She also acted in Catherine Corsini’s Un amour impossible (which won her the Most Promising Actress at the 2019 César Awards) and Jacques Audiard’s Les Olympiades. Since 2020, she hosts Arte’s musical programme, ECHOES.

MOHAMED EL KHATIB

Author, film and stage director, Mohamed El Khatib cofounded the cross-arts makers’ group Zirlib in 2008. He undertook a study into grief and the family with À l’abri de rien (2010), then followed it up with Finir en beauté (2014), C’est la vie (2017) and Renault (2018), a documentary on the death of his mother. His theatre practice, rooted in reality, made a mark in Moi, Corinne Dadat (2015). Impassioned about football, he made Stadium (2017), where 53 supporters of the Racing Club of Lens were invited on stage. El Khatib’s aesthetic philosophy aims to desegregate theatre by mixing actors and amateurs.

KUBRA KHADEMI

Afghani artist and performer Kubra Khademi explores her life as a woman and a refugee in her work. After doing fine arts in Kabul, she created public performances in Pakistan where she pursued further studies. She was obliged to flee Afghanistan in 2015 after her piece Armor, and seek asylum in France. In 2016, she was decorated with the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. Winner of the 2020 1% marché de l’art, she was in residency at the Fiminco Foundation till 2021, and is at the Salomon Foundation in New York since 2022. She has been supported by Latitudes Prod. since 2016.

CALIXTO NETO

Trained in theatre at Federal University of Pernambuco, then in dance in the Dance Experimental Group of Recife, Brazilian choreographer Calixto Neto joined the master’s programme ex.e.r.ce at the CCN in Montpellier from 2013 to 2015. Part of Lia Rodrigues’s company from 2007 to 2013, he has also collaborated with artists such as Volmir Cordeiro, Anne Collod or Luiz de Abreu. At the same time, he has developed his own projects : the pieces oh ! rage, Outrar and Feijoada, as well as the films O Samba do Crioulo Doido : règle et compas and Pro Futuro Quilombo.

CHRISTOS PAPADOPOULOS

Christos Papadopulous studied dance and theatre in Amsterdam and in Athens, as well as political science. He founded his company LEON AND THE WOLF. After ELVEDON (2015), he made OPUS (2016) – presented in Danse élargie in 2016 – followed by ION (2018) and LARSEN C (2021). He has also choreographed for films and plays of Kostas Gavras, Giorgos Lanthimos, Michael Marmarinos and Dimitris Karantzas. As a dancer, he has collaborated with Dimitris Papaioannou, Alexandra Waierstall Euripides Laskaridis and Kirstin Kuyl Anderson, among others.

TIAGO RODRIGUES

Portuguese actor, dramaturg and stage director, Tiago Rodrigues founded the company Mundo Perfeito in 2003 with Magda Bizarro. His plays have been performed all over the world. Besides his activities as writer, he has taught at P.A.R.T.S school in Brussels and at the school of La Manufacture in Switzerland. Awarded the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, he received the Europe New Theatre Realities Prize in 2018 and the Prix Pessoa in 2020. From 2015 to 2021, he headed the Teatro Nacional Dona Maria II in Lisbon. He will be the next director of the Avignon Festival from September 2022.

JURY OF THE YOUNG

Théâtre de la Ville and the dance department of the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Paris (CRRP) have, over several years, developed a partnership to enable students from the performance courses to meet with artists. During the 2020 edition Danse élargie autrement, students of CPES (the preparatory class for higher education) assembled for a day at Théâtre de la Ville to study all the projects. They chose Nicolas Barry, who then adapted his piece Pas de danse for a group of 17 students. This version, rehearsed at the CRRP and Théâtre de la Ville, was presented on 11 September 2021 at Théâtre des Abbesses, and was very successful. As a continuation of that beautiful experience, 13 students of CPES formed the Jury Jeunes – the jury of the young – at this seventh edition of Danse élargie, seizing the opportunity to hone their critical thinking and their ability to discuss, and debate over, works of art.

After the competition, they awarded their prize to Ioanna Paraskevopoulou with whom they would like to work, and they will present an adaptation of her piece Coconut Effect as part of Danse élargie – Suite at Théâtre des Abbesses in September 2023.
