Danse Fragile
Renato Cruz
Compagnie Híbrida
From pop to Tik Tok videos, from hip-hop to voguing, Danse Fragile parades gestural lexicon from street and popular dance from Brazil. A gradual shift occurs towards stigmatized stances, symbols of violence, and the hypocrisy of this society. Racism, classism and sexism always leave their imprints on bodies. Who has the right to dance? And which bodies silently endure violence?
After graduating in dance and performing arts, Renato Cruz has created seventeen shows with his company, founded in 2007. He has received numerous choreographic awards, including the Cesgranrio de Dança prize in 2019 for his piece Ininterrompu. Resident artist at the Choreographic Centre of Rio since 2008, invited to CENTQUATRE in 2018 and to La Villette in 2019, he is currently artistic director of the Arena Híbrida urban culture festival and founder of the social project Arte é o Melhor Remédio, which takes place in favelas and public hospitals in Rio.
