DisEngage
Joshua Akubo Gabriel
Compagnie Duniatè Culture LTD
How do we dissociate ourselves from dehumanizing conditions and from blind obedience to an oppressive power? The nervous and powerful dance of the performers frees itself, little by little, from the social, religious and economic straitjackets that confine their identities. Born from the frustration and disappointment in a joyless life and hopeless faith, DisEngage summons anger and chaos for an awakening of consciousness.
With a degree in computer engineering, Joshua Akubo Gabriel turned to dance. He cofounded the arts and cultural center Duniatè Culture LTD in Kaduna in 2019 and the Kaduna Performance Festival in 2021, to support and promote the work of young emerging artists through exchange programs and artistic projects. In 2021, he performed in Qudus Onikeku's Re:INCARNATION and created his first choreographic piece No Man's Land.
