Game Theory
Joshua Monten
In a playful and aerial environment, a fine team of sportspersons hurl themselves into frantic competition. They spin, jump, roll and twirl: an impressive display of legwork. Combining accuracy and unpredictability, this blithe performance explores and disrupts the constituent elements of sports: rules, risks and freedoms, rituals and surprise, adrenaline and flux. Place your bets, people!
After studying literature and cultural anthropology in the USA, Joshua Monten discovered dance at the age of twenty and became a performer with Bern Ballett and Stadttheater Heidelberg. He has worked with choreographers Stijn Celis, Hofesh Shechter, Irina Pauls and Tino Sehgal. With his company founded in 2018, he has presented his works at festivals around the world and regularly choreographs for institutions, awareness programs, and major ensembles of the Opéra national du Rhin Ballet and Opéra national de Lorraine.
