Les Jeux

Checho Tamayo

What if soccer and dance had more in common than we think? Suspended between erudite and ordinary, personal and political, feminine and masculine, heroic and absurd, Les Jeux questions the often binary and contradictory occidental view of the connection between sport and dance.

Checho Tamayo is a former footballer for the Colombian, Mexican, American and, later, Spanish teams. But it was on another playground that his creativity matured. He settled in Madrid, became a multidisciplinary artist and reinvented football as a popular and collective dance. For three consecutive years, he won the national INJUVE grant. In 2023, his piece Moritūrī tē salūtant won the prize at the WE:NOW international festival in Madrid. His latest piece, Oxímoron, was presented at Taiwan's Dance South festival.
