COCONUT EFFECT
Ioanna Paraskevopoulou • GREECE

How do we grasp the invisible substance of sound? Using objects and impromptu micro-movements, Ioanna Paraskevopoulou deploys a new choreographic mindset that redefines our perceptions of the audible and the visible. Coconut Effect tests the sonic potential of classic film scenes in a playful staging orchestrated in a trio.

Athens-based dancer, Ioanna Paraskevopoulou graduated from the Greek State School of Dance and is currently studying audiovisual arts at the university. She has collaborated with Iris Karayan, Christos Papadopoulos, Dimitris Papaioannou, Andonis Foniadakis, and Patricia Apergi, among others. Her work explores movement and audiovisual media. TRIBU[T]
Clémence Baubant • FRANCE

Reinvented bodies, chanted rhythms, liberated voices: the performers, whether solitary figures or in unison, commandeer the playing area in an act between pack and Voodoo ritual. With TRIBU[T], Clémence Baubant imagines a participatory saga exploring expressions of the collective body and its metamorphoses.

Nurtured by her Caribbean roots, Clémence Baubant bases her research in Guadeloupe. She explores memory and identity as a place of friction and porosity between bodies. Her participative and interdisciplinary work deals with metamorphosis, imbalance and the elusive. Winner of the "Prototype VI" initiative at the Abbaye de Royaumont, she has been involved since 2019 with the LLA CREATIS research laboratory of the University of Toulouse for her pedagogical research project on the decompartmentalization of dance and music.

HELP
Yoko Omori • JAPAN

Yoko Omori kicks off with a commentary: if only our emotions could be understood as clearly as those of dogs? With six performers embodying her own thoughts, she confesses that she cannot live without depending on something or someone. Help spotlights this intimate, offbeat space where she resolves to "ask for help".

Trained in ballet, Yoko Omori works in contemporary dance and hip hop. She won the Outstanding New Artist Prize and the Touch-point Art Foundation Award at the Yokohama Dance Collection in 2019, and the Best Dancer Award at the Yokohama Dance Collection in 2021. She is interested in the relationship between choreography and sonic material that she creates herself, exploring various combinations and textures.

D.I.S.C.O (DON’T INITIATE SOCIAL CONTACT WITH OTHERS)
Josépha Madoki • FRANCE

Josépha Madoki continues to explore the aesthetic of waacking, a “social dance” that emerged from the gay Afro and Latino American community in the underground clubs of Los Angeles in the 1970s. On the one hand, freedom, wildness and extravaganza, on the other, sanitary restrictions: with D.I.S.C.O (Don’t Initiate Social Contact with Others), eight dancers and a DJ take over the dancefloor to re-imagine the world of post-covid clubbing.

Josépha Madoki, aka “Princess Madoki”, combines her hip hop, afro and contemporary influences. She founded her company in 2010 and performed for many choreographers such as Damien Jalet, Wayne Mc Gregor, Pierre Rigal, Ousmane Sy, Robyn Orlyn. In 2016, she joined the Eastman/Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui company. As a specialist of Waacking, she co-founded the first French Waacking collective Ma Dame Paris, and in 2019 created a festival in Paris, the All Europe Waacking Festival.

BOUFFÉES
Leïla Ka • FRANCE

Standing still, facing the public, five women wipe their cheeks soaked in tears. What sorrow do they bear? Does it belong to them? With Bouffées, Leïla Ka imagines how to heal the "incurable”: to welcome grief in order to transform it into a medium of power and revival?

Leïla Ka began with urban dance before intersecting with other influences then performing for Maguy Marin in May B. After her first solo Pode Ser in 2018, she created the duet C'est toi qu'on adore in 2020 and the solo Se faire la belle in 2022. Associate artist at the Théâtre de l'Étoile du Nord and the CENTQUATRE-PARIS, Leïla is also in residency at Espace 1789 and supported by the Tremplin network until 2024. She is currently creating a piece for 5 women, of which Danse Élargie will be a first step.

CORE
Jerson Diasonama • FRANCE

Bodies move, crawl, freeze and lean to become one with the stage. On the Techno and Afro batida live sound of DJ Tyana, Jerson Diasonama brings together a plurality of styles, genres and identities. CORE is a journey to the heart of senses, an experience where everyone frees themselves from the physical limits of the space.

An autodidact, Jerson Diasonama has developed an instinctive, organic and raw gestural language. His sensitivity to movement beyond labels has led him to collaborate with various choreographers from the hip hop and contemporary scene. In 2017, he created essens:corp/, an experimental lab exploring the aesthetics of movement and the use of the body through dance, sound and image.

UNE FAMILLE SINGULIÈRE
Claire Durand-Drouhin • FRANCE

What language can emerge from physical constraints and “behavioural disorders” ? In Une famille singulière, the stage becomes the place where blended families are created with people who would apparently never meet. Claire Durand-Drouhin turns the singularity of each person into a source of poetry with unusual variations, between violence and delicacy.

After graduating from the London Contemporary Dance School in 1998, Claire Durand-Drouhin joined the company of Philippe Saire in Lausanne and the company of Jacky Auvray in Caen. From 2000 to 2009, she collaborated with Nieke Swennen in the company IN VIVO. Since 2007, she has been working with her company Traction in psychiatric hospitals and in prisons. In 2010 she created Chambre 10, in 2013 Vie de famille, in 2016 Who's Bach ? and in 2018 Portrait de groupe avec femme(s).

BREAK
Bruce Chiefare • FRANCE

How resistant can breakdancing in its most traditional form be ? Bruce Chiefare and four dancers challenge the DNA of break with a counteractive movement : slowness. Conceived as a salutary breath, against the ideology of acceleration of our society, BREAK re-imagines a style of dance and thereby our way of being in the world.

Bruce Chiefare started out as a breakdancer in various groups (Freemindz or Wanted Posse) and then as a performer for companies (Ethadam, Traffic de style, Régis Obadia, Käfig, etc.) before joining Kader Attou’s company Accrorap. With his company Flowcus, created in 2017, he offers a different perspective on urban dance and develops a personal choreographic language based on the relation to the other and improvisation, and search for slowness.

Dovydas Strimaitis • FRANCE / LITHUANIA

How do we to control the uncontrollable ? A piece for three dancers and their hair, Hairy offers a minimalist visual choreographic experience, imagined for one of the few parts of the body that cannot be moved voluntarily. A confrontation between unfastened hair, symbol of freedom and anarchy, and dance, the art of (self-)control.

In 2019, he joined the Ballet national de Marseille - direction (LA)HORDE, where he works with Lucinda Childs, Lasseindra Ninja, Tânia Carvalho, Oona Doherty and Alexandre Roccoli among others. WHAT DID YOU DO BEHIND THE CURTAIN?
Stereo48 Dance Company / Abdallah Damra, Amir Sabra • PALESTINE

How can the loss of physical capacity prove to be full of potentialities ? What possibilities come out of constraint ? Out of these questions, the collective Stereo48 develops a choreographic language inspired from sign language. With What did you do behind the curtain?, they explore new means of communication and connection in which bodies become mediums of meaning and (self )-expression.

The dance crew Stereo48 was founded in Nablus in 2013 by four dancers. Together they led hip hop classes in refugee camps and marginalised communities and encouraged young people to express their voices through dance. Today, Stereo48 has blossomed into a 9-member Contemporary hip hop Dance Company that tours all over the world.

MEEPAO
Surjit Nongmeikapam • INDIA

Surjit Nongmeikapam celebrates hope and resilience with this piece. Meepao is a tribute to all the departed souls, those who appreciated life and found joy in the chaos. Through ritualised movements inspired by the martial arts, the performing bodies transcend the lived world to celebrate and dance together with the spirits.

Surjit Nongmeikapam lives and works in Imphal, Manipur, in the far north-east of India. He trained in traditional Indian dances before exploring interdisciplinary arts and experimental work. He was awarded twice for Nerves (2014) and Folktale (2016) at PECDA in India. MER PLASTIQUE
Tidiani N’Diaye • FRANCE / MALI

With this phase of the work-in-progress Mer plastique *, Tidiani N'Diaye imagines a composition in bright yet disturbing colours, one where a multitude of plastic bags come to inhabit the stage to come to life, dance and twirl. When in touch with them, the performers are transformed into hybrid forms, half-human, half-animal, half-waste.

After training at the Centre de danse de Bamako, Tidiani N'Diaye won first prize in 2009 for his piece Être différent at the Institut français de Bamako. He joined the CNDC of Angers in 2011, then the ex.e.r.ce programme at the CCN of Montpellier in 2013. He danced for Gilles Jobin, Qudus Onikeku, Romeo Castellucci, Cindy Van Acker and Serge Aimé Coulibaly. He created the International Bam Festival in Bamako in 2018, and in 2021 the BAM BAM BAM Festival in France. Presented in the frame of New Settings 2022-2023 with Mer plastique, he is a resident artist at the Ateliers Médicis since 2020.

LA PREMIÈRE DANSE POLITIQUE
Josué Mugisha • BURUNDI

Josué Mugisha imagines an act of uprising against the crisis of the “word” in Burundi. La Première Danse politique is a collective call to reconcile with one's own history, to redefine the meaning of identity and to question one's place in the world. At a time when words are being lost, he summons dance, music and poetry for a healing process.

Director and choreographer Josué Mugisha lives in Bujumbura, Burundi. He is the artistic director of the company Les Enfoirés de SaNoLaDante. The virtuosity of the body is a fundamental element of his stage writing. Using texts, conceptual images and pure movement, his creations combine multiple forms of expression and offer an aesthetic that opens up infinite worlds to the spectator. Inviting each performer to express his or her singularity, he never stops questioning human nature.

ROI MUSCLÉE
Louise Buléon Kayser • FRANCE

A post-apocalyptic sensorial experience, Roi musclée delves into a subterranean future : while outside garbage becomes compost on boulevards, a group of people who have forgotten their gender is regularly meeting in secret. Bypassing all attempts at beauty, Louise Buléon Kayser orchestrates a shift between identities with a blurred choreography, on the edge of the void.

Louise Buléon Kayser trained in theatre, contemporary dance and opera at the Conservatoires de Paris and at Body mind centering. She co-founded an interdisciplinary makers’ group La Grosse Plateforme and co-created Le Sacre by La Ville en Feu (finalist in Danse élargie 2016) and Les Planètes. KLAPPING
KlappSquad – Ahilan Ratnamohan, Feras Shaheen • BELGIUM / AUSTRALIA

In 2017, Feras the Shield (aka Feras Shaheen) and Maestro Ahil (aka Ahilan Ratnamohan) founded the Klapping movement on the suburban football courts of Sydney : a new street dance was born. On the concrete, under the light of street lamps, between the goalposts, they explore football gestures. Over the years and through travel, they gathered a community of Klappers around the world.

Born to Palestinian parents in Dubai, Feras Shaheen lives and works in Sydney. He draws as much from his urban dance practice as from traditional Palestinian dance to develop his multidisciplinary practice. After attempting to become a professional football player, Ahilan Ratnamohan develops socio-artistic projects. MULTI-PRISES
Yasmine Hadj Ali, Antoine Kobi, Ike Zacsongo Joseph • FRANCE

Does becoming a group inevitably mean giving up our selves or to the contrary becoming an augmented entity ? With Multi-prises, the trio formed by Yasmine Hadj Ali, Antoine Kobi and Ike Zacsongo Joseph creates a space to act and question one’s relationship to the Other, one’s identity and desires. In this quest to be together, and therefore to be, the bodies are free to express themselves in all their complexity, fantasy and singularity.

Yasmine Hadj Ali began with dance and circus before discovering lyrical singing and theatre through body mime. Trained at the CRR93, she joined promotion of the MC93 and then the Conservatoire national supérieur d’Art Dramatique de Paris (CNSAD) in 2019. Antoine Kobi followed the same path after a degree in STAPS. He also acted in several short films and created his first play Le Début de la nuit as part of the festival Cartes blanches of the CNSAD. Enrolled at EICAR, Ike Zacsongo Joseph trained in all the performing arts and cinema. He also practises basketball, fencing, dance, piano, solfeggio and composes his own music. Multi-prises is the first creation of the trio after they met during their studies at the CNSAD.

MIREILLE
Collectif ÈS • FRANCE

A spin-off from FIASCO, Mireille offers 11 (re)readings of La Marseillaise by 11 perfor- mers who embody the meaning and weight of the lyrics. With this patriotic, caustic ballet that tests the notion of group organisation to its limits, the collective ÈS shapes and warps pressures on the chorus, all to expose the group with a shared heritage.

The collective ÈS brings together Émilie Szikora, Jérémy Martinez and Sidonie Duret. They devise the creative act as a collective produce, and they explore with derision the question of the relationship between the personal self and general. They always seek commitment of the body. Since 2011, they have co-created a dozen pieces, including Série Populaire in three parts (I wanna dance with somebody, Le Karaodance and Loto3000) and FIASCO in 2011, which uses discord and dissonance as a creative process using punk iconography and national anthems.
